Headed out on Pelican Lake

God is my Pilot
Growing up in Sioux Lookout, known as “the Hub of the North,” Lance Lockhart quickly learned that faith and resilience weren’t just abstract ideals—they were essential for survival. In the rugged wilderness of Northern Ontario, his Christian faith and the raw beauty of the Canadian landscape shaped his worldview, teaching him the delicate balance between human capability and spiritual conviction.
In 1989, his parents founded Lockhart Air Service, a charter airline that became a lifeline for remote First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario. But Lance wasn’t just next in line to inherit the business—he helped build it. From designing and constructing remote infrastructure to piloting twin-engine Cessnas, he experienced firsthand the challenges and rewards of bush flying. With only his training, instincts, and faith to guide him, he learned an invaluable lesson:
“When you fly with faith, you are never alone. From preflight checks to navigating the unknown, faith is an immeasurable comfort, even in the most challenging circumstances.”
Today, as both a Southwest Airlines captain and the artist behind Wyldebyrd Art, Lance’s faith remains the foundation of his professional and creative pursuits. Balancing the precision of aviation with the artistry of upcycling retired aircraft parts, he carries the same values of integrity, craftsmanship, and purpose into every piece he creates. From his workshop in Mesa, Arizona, he approaches his art with the same care and discipline he applies in the cockpit, seeing it as more than just visual expression—it’s a bridge between people, a testament to creation, and a reflection of a life lived with intention and grace.
As Wyldebyrd Art has grown into a leader in aviation-inspired art, Lance remains focused on a deeper mission: success isn’t just about achievements—it’s about the integrity with which they are pursued. Whether crafting custom pieces for fellow aviators or making aviation art accessible to enthusiasts, he sees his work as a form of ministry—an opportunity to use his God-given talents to bring joy, inspire wonder, and forge human connections.
“I have no set income with Wyldebyrd Art. Every sale is by faith. This allows me to step into the spaces where the Spirit calls me to serve. It never feels risky—it always feels purposeful.”
From the Canadian wilderness to the skies of America, Lance’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, purpose, and faith. These core principles—faith, craftsmanship, and wonder—are the foundations of Wyldebyrd Art. Each creation tells a story of flight, fellowship, and inspiration, ready to bring a touch of aviation artistry and spiritual meaning into your life.
